Synopsis

While Christmas shopping, Laura really snaps at Urkel for accidentally breaking an expensive crystal ornamentation, which she had intended to give Harriette as a Christmas gift. She fumes that she wishes he could simply see what it's like to be her, so peradventure he'd understand. So, Laura's guardian angel, Tyrone (T. Thousand. Carter) grants her wish and Urkel becomes Steve Winslow (in the alternate reality version). All the same in that location'due south a take hold of to her wish: she must walk a mile in his shoes as Laura Urkel and then she'll find out what's it like to have her feelings hurt and teach her a lesson.

Plot

At the Winslows, Urkel tries his new invention in giving their tree false snow. Information technology blows up in Carl's face, much to his dismay.

While taking a break in handing out gifts to orphan kids, Laura buys an expensive Christmas ornamentation she put on layaway as her Christmas gift to her female parent, Harriette. Urkel shows up in his car to accept her domicile. Laura asks him to get out considering she had already called Eddie to come choice her up. Steve wouldn't take any of it and reminds her it'southward freezing. He takes her bag and in the procedure he accidentally breaks the expensive ornament. A disheartened Steve leaves and Laura goes back to sitting down on the bench freezing and waiting for Eddie to option her up. Minutes afterward, Laura's guardian affections, Tyrone P. Carl is impressed and admires him considering he is charming, responsible, handsome, popular. He tells a jealous Eddie that Steve has all qualities of existence a perfect son that Eddie himself lacks in spite of his popularity, being also narcissistic, irresponsible and childish.

Not taking whatsoever find of this, Laura is upset to think Steve is her brother. However, Tyrone corrects her that he is Eddie'southward brother in this alternate universe. Minutes later, she recovers from her daze and asks if that "horrible-looking person" is her. Ty says yep and tells her that in this AU she's the Winslow family'southward annoying next door neighbor, Laura Urkel. He smiles at the idea and she's horrified by it. Tyrone refuses Laura'southward asking and tells her that she needs to experience the emotions that Urkel goes through when she yells at him. He clicks his remote and transports her into Laura Urkel's body confronting her wishes.

She says hullo to Carl and Eddie and asks Steve for a osculation after calling him a stud-muffin. He refuses and tells her to get lost. Laura refuses to exit, telling him that she'll win him over soon. Seconds afterward, Harriette shows up with a gingerbread house that she made for two whole days. Laura wants to be the outset to lick the chimney, but Steve tells her to be conscientious with it equally it's a work of art. She tells him that information technology'due south a "work of Harriette"; she laughs and snorts. Harriette is insulted by her comment and tells her to go home.

Laura tells her that she can't right at present. Carl asks her why not and she explains that she was kicked out of the Urkel home considering of her new invention. She tries to chase Laura, but Carl and Eddie restrains her. Afterwards on, Steve was however angry at her for wrecking Harriette'south hard piece of work on the gingerbread firm. Using the same words Laura used on him in the existent world, Steve tells her to get out of his life because of what she did to his mother's hard work on the gingerbread firm and tells her that he never wants to come across her over again. He points out that he wishes that Laura went 1 twenty-four hour period being in his shoes, then she would understand how he felt. She dejectedly leaves and he slams the door in her face, causing snow to fall on her hurt face.

Immediately, Tyrone uses his remote and brings Laura dorsum to where they were watching the alternate universe. She tells him it was an emotional trip because she acted and looked like a nerd. Still, she admitted that she had feelings like anyone else. She loved Steve with all her heart, only he hated her and information technology felt awful to endure the feelings. She tells him she wishes to exist nicer to Urkel and that she never wants to yell at him similar that again. Ty tells her that was the wish he was really hither to grant and is relieved that he's finally getting his wings. He gives Laura a 2nd chance, and before leaving he asks her to continue an eye out for the offset lighted star. She makes good on information technology when Urkel breaks the expensive ornamentation. Instead of yelling at Steve, she tells him non to worry about it and that the important thing is that he'southward okay. He takes her home and asks him to spend Christmas with her family unit.

During the ending credits, Carl fumes about the star not lighting up as Steve walks into the living room with Laura. He tells her that he was expecting her to be mad at him for what happened to her mother'due south Christmas gift, not be squeamish to him. He asks her if she'southward suffering from a nervous breakdown or that her feelings towards him had inverse. Laura mentions that she doesn't desire to tell him what really happened to her, only tells him that information technology made her grow up. Richie tells them the star on the tree has been lit. They walk out and merely Laura realizes that Tyrone has received his wings. Steve asks her who she's talking to and when she tells him, he concludes that she is suffering from a nervous breakdown.

The ending sequence shows the Winslow business firm converted into a Christmas card which opens that says "Family Matters wishes you and yours a happy vacation season".

  • Laura is the first Winslow to experience what life is like as Steve Urkel. Carl would afterwards follow in "To Exist or Not to Be (Part 1)" and "To Exist or Not to Be (Office 2)" as Nerd Carl. Like Laura, he experienced what life was like equally Urkel. Eddie would follow arrange in "What Do You Know?", when he sees what life is like as Eddie Urkel.
